Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between porcelain and ceramic plates?
Porcelain is made from refined kaolin clay fired at very high temperatures. That makes it dense, non-porous and stain resistant, and less prone to chipping than everyday ceramics such as stoneware or earthenware. It also feels lighter in the hand. Each product lists its exact material under Materials & finish.
Are the plates dishwasher safe?
It depends on the finish, so check the Care section on each product. Plain glazed porcelain and stoneware are generally dishwasher safe. Plates with gold, platinum or other metallic detailing, or hand-painted designs, last longest when hand washed in warm water with a mild detergent and a soft sponge.
Can I put them in the microwave?
Plates without metallic decoration are generally microwave safe, and the Care section on each product will confirm it. Never microwave plates with a gold, silver or other metallic rim or pattern, as the metal can spark and the decoration will be damaged.
Can they go in the oven or freezer?
Only if the product’s Care section says so. Sudden temperature changes (thermal shock) can crack ceramics, so let plates come to room temperature before washing them or serving hot food on them.
Which size should I choose?
8-inch (20 cm) plates are made for starters, salads and desserts. 10-inch (25 cm) plates are dinner plates for mains. Many customers pair both sizes for a complete place setting. Exact measurements are in the Size Guide.
Will every plate look exactly the same?
Plates in a set are matching, but glazes and hand-finished details can show subtle variations in tone, texture or line. These are natural hallmarks of craftsmanship, not defects.
How should I store them?
Stack plates with a soft liner or napkin between each one to protect the glaze and rims from scratches.
How long does delivery take?
Dinnerware usually ships within 5–7 working days and arrives within 7–13 working days. Standard shipping is free on orders over $100, and every parcel is tracked and insured. See our Shipping & Delivery Policy.
Can I return plates?
Because they are so fragile, all dinnerware items are non-returnable. If anything arrives broken or damaged, email care@decortriibe.com within 7 days of delivery with photos of the item and its packaging, and we’ll review it and arrange a replacement or partial refund. See our Return, Exchange & Cancellation Policy.
