Frequently asked questions
Is the glassware dishwasher safe?
Delicate, mouth-blown, crystal and gold-rimmed glassware should be hand washed in warm water with a mild detergent. For sturdier everyday glasses, use a cool, gentle cycle, place glasses on the top rack with space between them, and add rinse aid if you live in a hard-water area. The Care section on each product gives specific guidance.
Which glass is best for red, white or sparkling wine?
A universal wine glass, with a tulip-shaped bowl that narrows towards the rim, suits red, white and rosé alike, so one set covers most occasions. Larger bowls give bold reds room to breathe, while narrower bowls keep whites and sparkling wine cooler and help hold the bubbles.
What is lead-free crystal?
Lead-free crystal replaces lead oxide with minerals such as titanium, zinc or barium. It keeps the brilliance and fine rim of traditional crystal while being stronger and safe for everyday use. Each product page states its exact material.
How should I hold a wine glass?
Hold it by the stem. This keeps fingerprints off the bowl and stops the warmth of your hand from changing the temperature of the wine.
How full should I pour?
Pour to the widest part of the bowl, usually about a third full. The space above lets you swirl the wine and gather its aroma.
Why do glasses turn cloudy?
There are two causes. Limescale from hard water leaves a chalky film that disappears when the glass is wet, and it can be removed. Etching is permanent: tiny scratches caused by harsh detergents and hot dishwasher cycles. Hand washing prevents both.
How do I remove a cloudy film?
If the cloudiness is limescale, soak the glass for 15–30 minutes in three parts warm water to one part white vinegar, rinse well and dry straight away with a soft microfibre cloth.
Can I pour hot drinks into the glasses?
Only if the product says it is heat resistant. Standard glass can crack with boiling liquids or sudden temperature changes, and glassware should never go in the microwave.
Why does my glass have a tiny bubble or slight variation?
Mouth-blown and handmade glass can show small bubbles, subtle differences in thickness or slight variations in shape. These are natural hallmarks of handcraft, which make each piece unique.
